Mission to Egypt

April 2000 - September 2001

Week of May 21, 2000

"We have some trees here that have just bloomed the last 10 days and are they
gorgeous!"
"We love watching this little round cactus plant growing in the entry garden to our apartment. It puts out an 8" stem almost overnight and then it gets a blossom which lasts less than 1 day. This time it had 2 at once with a 3rd one almost ready to open up."

Elder's Quorum President moving a member.
"We went to a part of Cairo called Shubra where we met with a Catholic Priest who is in
charge of Caritas-Egypt. (An international charity which provides lots of help here to the poor, the illiterate, the lepers, the handicapped, etc.) We had to walk through this bazaar in order to get to his office. It was 11:30 a.m. when we walked through it a second time after our meeting and not quite all of the shops were open. There was stall after stall of women's clothing--all of polyester fabrics. I don't know how the women here can
stand to wear it in such hot weather! But I guess it is cheap and that's what they can afford."
