Mission to Egypt

April 2000 - September 2001

Week of June 4, 2000

Can you find a camel?

"Today we went to the Camel Market where I doubt very many Egyptians or tourists ever go. They only have this market on Mondays and Fridays so we had to take a P-day today to go."
"We were told that they drive them here from Sudan. Maybe that's why some are so thin. There were all colors of white to brown, some had lots of furry-like hair and others looked almost shaved. Most of them were headed to meat markets. It is a common meat here."
"They seem to be quite
docile and I think it would be easy to pet one. They certainly didn't seem to even take notice of us. We just had to stay out of their way when they decided to move."
 Sister Taylor with the Gerrards.

"It smelled just like the stockyards at home. We saw hundreds of camels and we just walked right through the market close enough to get bumped by a camel if we didn't watch carefully."
